A good waxing anywhere on the body is something most people would like to avoid. Waxing is the most effective way to keep body surfaces smooth. Unfortunately, it is also the most painful method. The outer lips, in particular, are complicated due to their delicate skin and difficult-to-reach location. But don’t worry. Check out these tips for waxing your genital area correctly.
Waxing Kit
Buy a waxing kit at your local pharmacy. Make sure to get soft wax instead of hard wax. Soft wax practically becomes liquid when heated, while hard wax is thick like honey and harder to apply. Each kit should come with all the necessary tools to wax your lips, but just in case, buy any missing items including: a small pot or heater to melt the wax, wooden sticks, a bandage, an Ace or other elastic bandage, cooling lotion.
Proper Preparation
Before trying the wax on your lips, prepare the skin by taking a hot shower. Hot water mixed with steam opens the pores, which reduces pain. Apply a small amount of baby oil around the area. This also reduces stinging when waxing. If the hair is excessive (more than half an inch or 0.50 centimeters in length), trim it with a pair of salon scissors. Do not shave the area before waxing. When the hair is too short, it is harder for the wax to adhere to the hairs.
Now You Are Ready
Once you have acquired a wax kit and finished preparing everything, you are ready to begin. First, cut the bandage two inches wide and in strips eight inches long (5 x 20 cm). Pour the wax into the heating container and turn on to medium heat. Place the wax and other tools next to you while sitting on a flat surface with your back against the wall. Once the wax has melted, dip a wooden stick into the dipping wax and let the excess drip back into the heater. Let it cool a bit, but don’t let the wax stop being a little warm. Spread the wax on the left lip first. Immediately place a strip of elastic bandage on the area. Let it rest for about 30 seconds while stroking down over the surface of the skin and hair. Take a deep breath and pull the strip quickly. You should see the hair on the bandage. If not, you probably pulled slowly and will have to repeat. Avoiding repetitions will help eliminate pain. Repeat the same process for the right lip. Once you have finished, take a warm, damp cloth and clean the leftover wax from the area. Apply cooling lotion for immediate relief.
