Hands and nails say a lot about us and are our best calling card.
However, despite the daily aggression of water, detergents and cold, we usually pay little attention and care to them.
Nails are composed of several layers of keratin. It is, therefore, a type of epidermis, skin, whose appearance and composition, as happens with hair and the skin of the rest of the body, reflects our hormonal disorders, diseases or nutritional deficiencies.
Therefore, nail care begins with a balanced diet and frequent hygiene.
A weekly manicure, far from weakening nails, strengthens them and noticeably improves their appearance.
The only things you need for a manicure are a little patience and a series of basic materials for cleaning, preparing and decorating nails.
Below we explain how to do a complete manicure in your own home, step by step:
1. Remove the previous nail polish from the nails with a cotton ball soaked in a good hydrating, acetone-free nail polish remover (a substance that dries and damages the surface of the nails).
2. File the nails, giving the appropriate shape to each type and shape of nail, insisting on the edges to avoid flaking of the keratin layers. It is not recommended to use metal files, which are very aggressive, but cardboard ones, available at any pharmacy. Avoid nail clippers and scissors; only occasionally, if the nails are very long, can special curved nail scissors be used.
3. Apply a small amount of special cream to treat cuticles. Spread it on the edges of the nail. Leave it on for a few minutes, and then gently push the cuticle up, shaping the nail, using an orange stick. You should never cut the cuticles, or they will grow back harder and stronger. Remove the hangnails with special manicure tweezers. Soak the hands in warm water to remove the cream residue.
4. Regenerate the nails by massaging them with a revitalizing and hydrating product that favors their growth and gives them elasticity and resistance. Let the product dry before repeating the application, and wait at least 20 minutes before proceeding with the manicure.
5. Apply a nail-strengthening base (without formaldehyde) to clean, dry nails, especially if they are fragile or bitten. Let dry.
6. Spread the nail polish in three brush strokes, without retouching or going over: start with one stroke in the central area of the nail, from the base to the tip; continue in the same way on the sides. For a perfect finish, it is advisable to apply a first thin coat, let it dry, and repeat the operation with a new coat of polish. You can finish with a colorless fixer coat.
